Feel the chill in the air? That’s right, it’s spooky season! Between watching Stranger Things and reading local legends, I’ve been revisiting some negatives I took during what I call “my film photography years.” (I still like film, I just don’t shoot it much anymore.) In the spirit of Halloween, I thought I’d share some photos I’ve taken over the years of creepy places and spaces.

Southwest Michigan used to be a major paper manufacturing region. Although many of the old mills have been torn down or redeveloped, once in awhile you’ll run into one that remains.
For years, I drove by this place on Wealthy Street and never saw anyone serving ice cream or hot dogs. The building has been repainted since this photo was taken, but it still appears to be unoccupied.

Northern Michigan is beautiful, but there are places that are remote in a creepy way. Like, no cell service, haven’t seen a house for miles, oh god don’t let my car break down remote. You’ll find things like rusted out car bodies deep into the woods.
